WEBINAR: What's in our waters? High-resolution mass spectrometry reveals

Date:  Thursday, November 16, 2023
Time:  10:00 AM Greenwich Mean Time
Duration:  1 hour
More information: here

Join webinar as we hear from Janine Elliott, senior scientist from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), who will detail her high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry (HRAM) approach to detect over 500 compounds in Scottish waters, including plant protection products, pharmaceuticals, personal care products (PPCPs).

Many chemical substances enter our waterways from different sources and pathways. The EU Water Framework Directive and local regulations only require a small number of these substances to be monitored. Yet, the potential impacts of this pool of chemical substances on the environment and human health remain unclear. To monitor a broad range of compounds, providing insight into the “chemical cocktail” in Scottish waters, Janine has developed an HRAM method with a straightforward data processing scheme providing fast, sensitive, cost-effective analysis that is flexible to meet evolving project requirements.

In this informative webinar, Janine will delve into her analytical workflow and initial findings from this horizon-scanning approach to water monitoring.

Discover:

  • A fast, sensitive and robust HRAM method for environmental monitoring
  • How to get more data from a single water sample
  • A cost effective emerging contaminant analysis

Who should attend?

  • Environmental water and testing laboratories
  • Scientists interested in detecting emerging contaminants
  • Water chemistry regulatory essentials

Speaker:

  • Janine Elliot, Scottish Environment Protection Agency
